I love when people reach out to me to book a photo session for their extended family. It’s often a group of adult siblings (each with families of their own) giving this as a gift to their parents. And honestly, you really couldn’t pick a better Christmas or holiday gift!
Extended family photo sessions are the perfect gift for the parents who have everything.
Family is so important, and having pictures of your growing families all together is such an amazing keepsake. These are the photos you’ll look back on throughout your lifetime.
Family photos that include every member of your family will get passed down to your kids and grandkids, and become heirlooms.
Family means a lot to me, and so does photography, so naturally I’m all emotional over here as I write this! LOL! Stick with me!!
3 Reasons Extended Family Photos Are So Important:
1. Family sessions allow your photographer to capture a really great variety of photos, including a whole bunch of different groupings.
For example: individual portraits of the kiddos, smaller family groupings, a big family group, spouses together, grandparents with all of the grandkids, parents with their kids, the list goes on!!
2. Sure, you can always snap a few pics at the next family gathering, but it’s hard to get great group photos.
Not to mention sometimes people are absent from the festivities, not wearing their best outfit, etc. Having a pre-planned photo session ensures that everyone is present, looking their best (and therefore feeling their best!), and ready to just relax and enjoy some time together.
3. You won’t ever get this time back. Make the most of it.
I often hear people talk about how doing group family photos “would be nice” but they “just don’t have time”.
Make time! Photos with you, your kids, your parents, and all of the grandkids won’t just happen on their own, and having these memories for everyone to look back on is SO important.
I help you pick a location with beautiful green space, easy parking, and lots of room for everyone to stretch (and for hyper kids to play and run around!).
Family sessions end up being a bit more traditional than a smaller photo session, but I always am looking for connections, personality, and FUN! I’ll guide your family through the process of being photographed, always keeping it light and fun. You’ll love the variety of pictures in your gallery!!
I know how tricky it can be to find a date that works for everybody’s busy schedules, so my best advice is to plan EARLY!
It works out really well to purchase a gift certificate that you can gift to parents over the holidays, and then you can coordinate with everyone to book a day that works. I’m located in Buffalo, NY, and also shoot in East Aurora and Orchard Park. 🙂

Kind words from my client:
“Lindsey is amazing to work with! My sister and I bought a gift certificate to give to our parents. We have six children and Lindsey made us feel at ease and so comfortable. I highly recommend her to anyone who would like family portraits taken!” – Lindsey Metzger, family portrait client
